‘Mistakes are allowed,’ people often say. At FosFor, we say: sure you can. But mistakes are expensive. And usually avoidable. Especially when it comes to hiring staff.

Many entrepreneurs (unknowingly) make the same four mistakes. And that is a shame. Because they cost you time, money and the best people. That is why we share them. Including solutions.

Miss 1: You judge too quickly
Our brain is built to judge quickly. That helps against predators, but not with job applicants.
Solution: judge slowly and deliberately. Ask through, test for facts, use cases or tests.

Miss 2: You don't use objective methods
“Looks like me, so will be good” is not a strategy.
Solution: work with structured interviews, multiple evaluators and validated tests. And above all, don't say: “you speak Frits like this, good luck!”

Miss 3: You don't actually know what someone should be able to do
A job posting is not a job description. What does this person really do on Mondays at 10:00 am?
Solution: break tasks down into percentages and test focused on what is really needed.

Miss 4: You are slow

If you dawdle, your candidate will choose the competitor.
Solution: in your job posting, show the whole process and respond at lightning speed. An hour's wait is allowed. No more.

Recruitment requires both focus and speed. As an entrepreneur, you already have a hundred things on your mind. That is why we at FosFor help you not only with candidates, but also with thinking, honing, testing and deciding.

Every week, we spar with you in a progress meeting. We discuss candidates and give you ideas and suggestions on how to avoid these four mistakes.
